Beyond "Integrated Weapon System Management"-Acquisition in Transition Lieutenant Colonel A" John R. Ward C. • U.S. Air Force, LECTAR0 MIZ Faculty Research Advisor Dr. Robert E. Lyons The Industrial College of the Armed Forces National Defense University Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. 9 4 3 8 i 1 2. Homing guidance systems control the flight path by employing a device in the weapon that reacts to some distinguishing feature of the target. Homing devices can be made sensitive to a variety of energy forms, including RF, infrared, reflected laser, sound, and visible light. The weapons technology that will be discussed in this thesis has been limited to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV)1 and Precision Guided Munitions (PGMs). These technologies have been selected due to the significant impact they have had on. support the sustainment of weapon systems. Best practice and guidance for ensuring that these systems meet sustainment objectives and satisfy user sustainment needs includes sustainment considerations in all phases of the program's life cycle. These acquisition lifecycle phases are formalized in DoDI
Weapons and Combat Systems Assessment: Assess individual weapon system performance and end-to-end tactical system effectiveness. Weapons Guidance Technology: Undertakes research, development and analysis of advanced guidance technologies, electro-optic and radio frequency seekers, and integrated guidance systems of modern weapons. UNCLASSIFIED. Weapon systems. The devastating power punch, high precision and reachability offered by a focused beam of laser energy can also be employed as a weapon system. We classify laser weapons as non-lethal (incapacitating) and destructive systems based on their impact, as discussed in ensuing paragraphs. Non-lethal (incapacitating) weapons.
